Samoëns – Grand Massif

The village of Samoëns is situated within a glacial valley by the Giffe river. Most of the old houses in Samoëns are built of stone, a result of the villages historic reputation for it’s talented stone cutters.

“Samoëns” is a mediaeval expression meaning “the seven mountains”, a name given to the village because of the seven peaks that surround it. The locals are known as septimontains (men) and septimontaines (women).
